The theatre program at Midwestern State University focuses exclusively on undergraduate education. This allows dedicated, talented students to quickly engage both in academic studies and hands-on production work, whether onstage or behind the scenes. The curriculum highlights the vital connections between all theatre disciplines: acting, design, technical production, and academic research. Faculty foster a collaborative environment built on teamwork and mutual appreciation. While providing comprehensive training across fundamental theatre areas, the program also enables focused specialization. Theatre students complete a core curriculum including theatre history, script analysis, performance, direction, design, and technical production before choosing a concentration in either performance or design/technology. The program additionally offers a teacher certification track, making MSU one of just three Texas institutions granting a B.F.A. in Theatre with teaching credentials. Furthermore, MSU holds the distinction of being Texas's sole member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.
