The Juanita and Ralph Harvey School of Visual Arts at Midwestern State University provides diverse studio programs in modern facilities. Every discipline delivers comprehensive instruction in practical abilities, studio methods, and visual principles essential for producing fine art. Throughout the academic year, the gallery showcases group and solo shows featuring artists recognized regionally and nationally, complemented by the Annual Student Exhibition each spring and summer. In fall and spring, the Harvey School of Visual Arts organizes workshops and lectures via its Visiting Artist Program. Educational trips to museums, galleries, and private studios in Dallas and Fort Worth enhance the learning journey. The school presents three degree paths: The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) suits students aiming to major in art with a minor in another area. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) offers a more intensive curriculum for those pursuing graduate studies and professional growth. K-12 teacher certification is available as an addition to the B.F.A. degree.
The metalsmithing curriculum teaches techniques for working with silver and other non-ferrous metals. Students acquire extensive skills such as casting, raising, enameling, soldering, die forming, and niobium anodizing. Emphasis is placed on craftsmanship and design competencies relevant to modern jewelry making.
