The Doctor of Philosophy program in Nursing prepares future nurse scientists to tackle pressing health issues at local, national, and international levels through the application and advancement of nursing knowledge and related fields. This program focuses particularly on training graduates for careers in intervention and translational science, specializing in wellness practices, risk prevention, and symptom self-management.
Program alumni will be equipped to perform innovative research with suitable methodologies, utilize pertinent theories and frameworks to advance wellness and chronic disease science, enhance health outcomes via nursing interventions and scientific translation, and guide cross-disciplinary teams to progress collaborative nursing research.

Qualification Requirements

All Official Transcripts. TOEFL PBT - 550. TOEFL IBT - 80. IELTS - 6.5.
Students applying to the Ph.D. program must meet university requirements as described under Graduate Education in the academic programs catalog, as well as the following:

Possess a current, unrestricted professional nursing license in Michigan or home jurisdiction,
Submit a university application for graduate admission, which includes personal and academic statements,
Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections completed within the last five years. Official copies of GRE scores must be submitted before a final admission decision will be made,
Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in nursing (admission to the program without a master's degree in nursing may require additional coursework as specified by the College of Nursing),
Have a grade-point average of at least 3.0 for all previous academic work,
Provide three references from academic or employment sources,
Submit a curriculum vitae,
Provide a statement of nursing research goals,
Provide evidence of completion of a graduate level statistics course with a grade of 3.0 or better within the last five years,
Complete an English language proficiency test if applying as an international student whose native language is not Enlgish. Acceptable test include: TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, MSUELT, PTE A (Pearson),
Provide proof of U.S. bachelor's or master's degree equivalency (refer to the Graduate School's website for specific international transcrpt requirements) if applying as an international student.
