The Doctor of Philosophy degree programs build upon a comprehensive undergraduate foundation, focusing on specialized study and innovative research in fields such as analytical chemistry, chemical education, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. Students can also pursue interdisciplinary research projects, including collaborations with biochemistry or the cyclotron laboratory. The MSU Chemistry Department provides diverse academic experiences, excelling in both core chemistry principles and emerging fields. While the Ph.D. is the primary graduate degree, a limited number of students may enroll in the M.S. program. Advanced coursework and research span traditional chemistry disciplines—physical, organic, inorganic, and analytical—as well as interdisciplinary domains like polymer science, materials research, surface science, spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, and biological chemistry.
