The Department of Animal Science provides Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs covering diverse animal science disciplines. Certain interdisciplinary options may be available as well. Each student's curriculum is tailored to departmental strengths and personal objectives. While programs differ, all animal science graduate studies aim to:
Deliver a robust biological science foundation with specialized expertise in areas crucial to animal agriculture.
Cultivate innovation and encourage independent thinking.
Enhance technical capabilities.
Prepare students for successful careers in extension, research, education, or agribusiness.
Students can pursue various research specializations within animal science, working with species like beef/dairy cattle, sheep, swine, horses, poultry, or laboratory animals. State-of-the-art animal facilities, computing resources, and libraries support research endeavors.
Graduate assistantships frequently become available through faculty research grants. Assistants typically dedicate specified hours to research while completing coursework and thesis/dissertation requirements. Benefits include a stipend, tuition coverage (9 credits fall/spring, 3-5 summer), waived out-of-state fees, and university-paid health insurance enrollment.
