Lyman Briggs College is a residential institution that connects scientific and humanities disciplines through integrated teaching and research. Students receive foundational training in core sciences like mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics. The curriculum also explores the historical, philosophical, and social implications of contemporary science, technology, environmental issues, and medical advancements. Upper-level coursework in students' chosen majors is completed through various university departments, including Natural Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Natural Resources. Most Lyman Briggs graduates continue to advanced scientific studies or enter professional fields such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary practice, healthcare, education, or law. Other career paths include secondary education, science communication, technical sales, industrial positions, or government roles after earning their Bachelor of Science degree.
As a residential program, Lyman Briggs College houses classrooms, labs, faculty offices, advising centers, and administrative spaces within Holmes Hall, where first-year and numerous upperclass students both reside and study. This unique living-learning environment fosters strong community bonds by blending academic growth with personal development alongside resident faculty, staff, and peers. The college promotes a well-rounded experience, encouraging students to complement their studies with social, cultural, athletic, service-based, and leadership activities both on campus and throughout the East Lansing area.
