MSU's string students learn from globally acclaimed faculty members who bring vast teaching and performing expertise. They enjoy personalized mentorship to excel musically, alongside numerous chances to perform with peers and professionals. Alumni frequently secure positions in prestigious orchestras across the globe. Weekly studio classes for string majors cover solo, chamber, and orchestral works, preparing students for diverse musical careers. These classes welcome all string majors, with cross-instrument participation encouraged. Students also receive weekly private instruction from faculty and attend masterclasses by visiting artists. Performance options are plentiful, including auditions for MSU's symphony, chamber groups, and regional orchestras. MSU's string faculty, celebrated for their artistic excellence, technical command, and pedagogical experience, cultivate a supportive yet challenging learning atmosphere. All admitted students are automatically evaluated for merit-based music scholarships, while graduate applicants may qualify for assistantships, fellowships, and additional awards (following in-person auditions). No separate application is needed for scholarship consideration.
