The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Science (ScD) in Civil and Environmental Engineering provides advanced specialization across all research domains covered by the department's faculty. This doctoral program trains students to develop research-based solutions and apply them effectively to create tangible impacts. To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
The minimum score required for the IELTS is 7.5 and the minimum score for TOEFL is 100 (iBT) 600 (PBT).
