The AeroAstro department provides Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) programs focused on specialized research within a concentrated field. Prospective students can find details about the doctoral admission process in the Admission Requirements section mentioned earlier. To earn the degree, candidates must complete a tailored curriculum, propose and defend a thesis topic, and ultimately present and defend an original research thesis.
Once admitted, doctoral students work with their thesis advisor to choose a research focus and assemble a thesis committee. This committee guides the candidate's academic and research plans while tracking their advancement. The key requirement for earning the doctorate is proving the ability to conduct pioneering research in aerospace engineering. The thesis not only showcases this capability but must also be defended in an oral presentation before department faculty, who then decide whether to confer the degree.
