The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering provides a curriculum culminating in a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering. Students can select from three specialized majors within this single degree or opt for the unique five-year B.S./M.S. program. This accelerated program enables eligible students to earn both a bachelor of science and a master of science in biomedical engineering within five years. Qualified students with appropriate grade point averages join the program in their junior year, initiating thesis research during the summer between their junior and senior years. This laboratory research continues through the summer following their senior year and throughout their fifth year, concluding with the completion of a written thesis and its defense.
