Marquette University offers two biology degree programs: biological sciences (biology) and biology for professional careers. The biology program positions students at the forefront of scientific discovery, employing cutting-edge technologies to investigate areas like molecular medicine, ecological systems, genetic controls in organism development, microbial functions, and cellular processes. Unlike many research institutions, Marquette ensures all biological sciences students complete at least three laboratory courses exclusively taught by faculty professors—not teaching assistants. Undergraduate biology students gain hands-on experience by conducting independent research projects in faculty-led laboratories. These research opportunities often lead to presentations at regional or national academic conferences. Additionally, the Biological Sciences for Education major serves future educators in the College of Education who aspire to teach biology at secondary schools.
