Artists serve as innovative project leaders who bring fresh ideas to life. The Fine Arts Major is a hands-on art program designed to equip you for a vibrant, imaginative career in visual expression.
Students in the Fine Arts Major refine their technical abilities while broadening their creative thinking, gaining the skills to develop visually compelling and meaningful artwork. The program fosters decision-making and leadership qualities as you guide projects from initial concept to final presentation—skills valuable across diverse professional fields.
This program blends practical Studio Art training with chances to cultivate your unique artistic voice through both individual and group projects. Creating experimental artwork, building a portfolio, and showcasing work in student exhibitions form the core of the Fine Arts Major experience.
The curriculum begins with foundational courses in Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, and Printmaking. Students later specialize in one of these four disciplines, with studio electives allowing further concentration or exploration of other mediums like Photography, Photoshop, and Graphic Design.
Art History courses provide engaging, interactive learning through practical art activities, contemporary relevance, and visits to the Detroit Institute of Arts.
