Many individuals from racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual minority groups face mental health challenges due to limited access to quality care and systemic discrimination. Loyola University Chicago's MEd in Community Counseling program empowers you to challenge these inequities and improve mental health access. Our nationally recognized, socially conscious faculty will guide you in addressing systemic issues like racism and educational disparities.
The Community Counseling MEd offers flexible scheduling with full-time or part-time options. Evening classes meet at our Water Tower Campus (easily accessible via the Red Line) with most courses available online. This 48-credit hour program combines core counseling coursework with specialized training, including 700 hours of hands-on practicum and internship experience. A comprehensive exam is required in your final semester.
To earn the MEd degree, students complete 48 credit hours across counseling fundamentals and specialty tracks, including six credits for 700 practicum/internship hours. The program culminates with a comprehensive exam and must be finished within five years of enrollment.
