LMU's Screenwriting program equips students with the understanding that every outstanding film and TV show—whether drama, comedy, action-adventure, romance, or thriller—originates from a compelling story conveyed through writing. The School of Film and Television's Screenwriting program aims to deliver top-tier education in the artistry and techniques behind crafting these narratives and perfecting the written word.
Dedicated faculty in the Screenwriting program guide each student in discovering their unique creative vision and expressing it cinematically and professionally within an encouraging, collaborative, and enjoyable atmosphere.
Screenwriting students build a strong liberal arts foundation through core university courses, enhancing their ability to share their worldview with audiences effectively.
As they progress, majors focus on specialized coursework, tapping into their creativity and personal experiences to develop stories that entertain, inspire, provoke, and engage viewers. To bring these stories to life, students master the fundamentals of screenwriting.
They explore character development, dialogue, plot construction, visual storytelling, and both traditional and innovative narrative structures. In upper-level courses, students draft and refine feature-length scripts, analyze genres, practice writing for sitcoms and TV dramas, and adapt stories across various media formats.
