Environmental challenges and the majority of ecological emergencies we face today are fundamentally cross-disciplinary in nature. Though students passionate about environmental concerns might eventually specialize as researchers, economists, historians, or other experts, a well-rounded environmental education demands fundamental knowledge across diverse fields. Accordingly, program participants explore ecological systems through lenses of humanities, social sciences, and environmental science, culminating in an original capstone project. The Environmental Studies curriculum equips students with comprehensive environmental literacy, enabling them to tackle urgent ecological problems and multifaceted environmental challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
Those pursuing Environmental Studies as a major or minor will investigate critical topics including planetary climate shifts, preservation of biological diversity, eco-friendly growth strategies, ethical considerations regarding wildlife and ecosystems, human population dynamics and resource use, environmental influences on governance at all levels, and equity issues surrounding environmental policies and racial disparities in ecological impacts.
