The Master of Science program in Nutrition and Food Sciences mandates completion of at least 30 graduate credit hours, comprising 24 coursework hours and 6 thesis research hours. A minimum of 15 credits must come from 7000-level or higher courses. Within the 24 coursework hours, students may enroll in up to 9 hours of NFS 7030 (Advanced Food and Nutrition Research). Importantly, the 9-hour limit applies to a student's entire graduate career in the School of Nutrition and Food Sciences - meaning those who complete 9 hours during their master's studies cannot take this course again at the doctoral level.
Applicants lacking undergraduate nutrition coursework may need to fulfill prerequisite undergraduate classes. The program may require additional credits beyond the 30-hour minimum to ensure comprehensive field knowledge, as determined by the student's Major Professor or Graduate Advisory Committee.
