The Sport Management specialization is a Master of Science degree (non-thesis) featuring an innovative curriculum that emphasizes cross-departmental partnerships. Graduate students in this program are actively encouraged to enroll in courses across various campus departments alongside the foundational curriculum, which covers organizational behavior, financial management, societal concerns, and legal aspects. Distinct from other sport management graduate programs, LSU's approach integrates resources from the School of Kinesiology and College of Human Sciences and Education, facilitates collaboration with the prestigious E.J. Ourso College of Business, and encourages involvement with the Manship School of Communication and other esteemed academic programs to equip students with essential knowledge and competencies for their professional aspirations. A key component of the program is a semester-long internship where students gain hands-on experience in a chosen sport management field. Past internship locations have featured organizations like the National Senior Games, Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation, MLB's Texas Rangers, NBA's Washington Wizards, Southeastern Conference offices, and various LSU athletics departments.
This sport management program equips students for leadership roles in the business and administrative sides of sports and recreation. Alumni frequently secure positions as venue and event managers for sports facilities, entertainment complexes, and fitness centers; ticket operations specialists across collegiate and professional sports; marketing and promotions executives; and sports media relations directors. Additional career paths pursued by graduates include athletic administration roles in schools and universities, front office management in professional sports organizations, community outreach coordination, and event planning positions.
