Master's students enjoy significant flexibility when designing their academic path. Each discipline group provides curriculum guidelines. Our faculty brings extensive formal education, hands-on expertise, and active research involvement across multiple specialties including environmental engineering, water resources/coastal systems, ecological engineering, geotechnical studies, structural design, material mechanics, and transportation systems. State-of-the-art laboratories support research in these and connected fields. Typically, graduate students focus their studies within one specialization area. The civil engineering master's program offers two distinct pathways. For the thesis track, candidates must finish at least twenty-five (25) credit hours of approved coursework plus a 6-credit thesis. The non-thesis alternative requires completion of thirty-four (34) credit hours of approved classes along with a 3-credit final project. Below you'll find general recommendations for course selection in both programs.
