The LSU School of Music's Music Education Program ranks among the nation's top-tier offerings. Building upon a rich legacy of musical achievement, this program brings together exceptional music education faculty with accomplished performers, conductors, music scholars, a robust liberal arts foundation, and consistently talented undergraduate and graduate students.
Our bachelor's degree program enhances students' analytical abilities and musical proficiency through rigorous coursework in tonal harmony, counterpoint, musical form, chromatic techniques, and modern theory. At the graduate level, we employ diverse teaching approaches such as inverted classroom models, digital learning tools, and live demonstrations to bridge academic understanding with practical performance skills.
Advanced degree candidates (M.M. and Ph.D.) pursue specialized studies in performance analysis, set theory, transformational analysis, musical corpus research, and cognitive music studies. Competitive graduate assistantship opportunities are offered to select students.
