The Department of History has built a distinguished reputation for excellence in both academic instruction and scholarly research. The LSU Libraries boast over three million books, five million microforms, and an extensive manuscript collection exceeding 12 million items. Hill Memorial Library's Special Collections are particularly notable for their holdings on the Lower Mississippi Valley, Southern history, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
