Using core principles of their field (chemical reactions and separation techniques), chemical engineers develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to create materials efficiently while customizing their characteristics for particular uses. These capabilities enable chemical engineers to contribute to producing Apple's microchips, Ford's control systems, and Proctor & Gamble's detergent capsules. Career paths for graduates include roles in petrochemical facilities, R&D departments, or pursuing advanced degrees in graduate or medical programs.
