The Master of Science in Comparative Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences (CBVS) at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) equips students with interdisciplinary training in One Health through specialized coursework and research. This program leverages existing courses from the School of Natural and Life Sciences (Biology Department) and College of Health Professions and Nursing (Biomedical Science Department) at Long Island University, alongside foundational science classes from the veterinary medicine curriculum covering bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epidemiology, immunology, toxicology, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. CBVS-specific offerings feature weekly seminars highlighting research conducted by CVM faculty, graduate students, or external institutions.
The CBVS research curriculum for the M.S. degree concentrates on two key domains: Infectious Diseases and Comparative Medicine and Therapeutics. The Infectious Diseases track provides expertise in bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology, and vaccine development. The Comparative Medicine and Therapeutics pathway explores Cancer Biology, Chemo- and Precision-Therapeutics, Molecular Immuno-Physiology, Pathology, Molecular Pathophysiology, and Regenerative Medicine.
