While classroom teachers provide a curated sampling of these resources, it's the School Library Media Specialist who holds the key to the full repository of knowledge, concepts, and principles that shape our identity.
The tri-state region faces an urgent demand for School Library Media Specialists—individuals passionate about guiding students, educators, and administrators through the digital landscape of our modern information age. Addressing this need, the Palmer School of Library and Information Science provides a 36-credit Master's program in Library and Information Science with a focus on School Library Media.
Graduates of this program emerge as catalysts for educational transformation, equipping both students and teachers with the skills to navigate and evaluate the overwhelming array of print and digital resources available today.
The School Library Media specialization courses are available through blended and online learning formats, merging the flexibility of digital education with the depth of in-person interactions. Designed for working professionals, this program allows students to attend classes remotely on their own timetable while still enjoying the advantages of direct engagement with faculty and peers.
This ALA-accredited master's program qualifies graduates for Initial New York State Certification as School Library Media Specialists. Following three years of professional experience in the field, candidates may apply for New York State professional certification.
