LIU's Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing equips students to thrive as professional authors while cultivating their role as innovative contributors to the literary community. Located in vibrant Brooklyn, this groundbreaking program emphasizes global literature, cross-genre learning, and publishing expertise. Our hands-on MFA curriculum opens doors to careers in writing, teaching, translation, and publishing. Over two years of on-campus study, participants explore poetry, fiction, nonfiction, drama, and translation, gaining comprehensive training across multiple genres.
Through specialized publishing courses, students work directly with industry leaders. The program offers insights into commercial, independent, and academic publishing through regular sessions with literary agents, editors, and representatives from prominent national and international literary organizations. We also emphasize performance-related skills such as audiobook narration, public readings, and adaptation work. Participants explore the dynamic relationship between publishing and both traditional and emerging media. Practical experience comes through New York-based literary internships and hands-on editorial work with LIU's prestigious literary publications.
For those planning doctoral studies in Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, World Literature, Translation, or cultural studies, our curriculum delivers essential foundations in global literature and translation. The program will soon introduce innovative international initiatives like the Overseas Writers Workshop, offering students immersive experiences with world literatures across different countries.
