Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) employs high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to generate real-time visualizations of internal organs, tissues, and blood circulation within the body. This non-invasive imaging technique is extensively utilized in healthcare settings.
Learners transition into the professional stage of their training at the start of their third year of full-time study. This phase combines classroom instruction with hands-on scanning lab practice and comprehensive clinical training in DMS.
Before graduating, students qualify to undertake the ARDMS certification exams across three specialty areas (abdominal, OB/GYN, and adult echocardiography), opening doors to diverse clinical career opportunities in medical sonography.
DMS candidates can take national certification exams in Adult Echocardiography, Abdominal Sonography, OB/GYN Sonography, and the SPI exam before degree completion, allowing them to become fully credentialed upon graduation. This early certification significantly enhances LIU DMS graduates' appeal to healthcare employers.
Undergraduate Applicants are required to submit the High School transcripts or its equivalent.
