The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Adolescence Education: Biology trains future biology educators to foster student achievement in understanding and applying biological concepts. This degree provides the essential skills, knowledge, and framework to inspire middle and high school learners across different ability levels, teaching them core scientific principles, environmental studies, life sciences, and research methods. Students gain hands-on experience through supervised teaching placements in real classrooms for both middle (grades 7-9) and high school (grades 10-12) levels, observing licensed educators, engaging with pupils, and studying adolescent learning approaches in biology.
Upon fulfilling all degree requirements, passing New York State certification exams (EAS, CST, and edTPA), and completing mandatory teacher preparation workshops, graduates receive Initial teaching certification from the New York State Education Department.
