The role of an air traffic controller is absolutely critical. You will guide aircraft arriving at and departing from the airport, providing pilots with instructions for landing and takeoff to reduce flight delays and, most importantly, ensure passenger safety. Lewis students benefit from classroom learning, lab simulations, and practical experience in our advanced facilities, equipping them thoroughly for entry into the FAA Academy, where they will finish their air traffic control training.
This program is intended for students pursuing a career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. Enrolled students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all major ATC courses, with no grade below a "C" in the major. Midway through the curriculum, students must pass an aptitude test, and after completing all courses, they must pass a comprehensive exam to earn a certificate from an FAA-approved Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) college. Graduates become eligible for FAA hiring, contingent on passing a physical exam and an aptitude test administered under FAA guidelines. Successful candidates will then undergo further training at the FAA Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Completing this program in Oklahoma City provides the essential training and skills needed to serve as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA.
