Lehigh's Professional Master's (M. Eng.) in Healthcare Systems Engineering (HSE) equips forward-thinking professionals with the knowledge and vision to drive quality and efficiency improvements in healthcare organizations. For over ten years, research from NAE, NSF, NAS, the Institute of Medicine, and other authorities has strongly demonstrated that systems engineers are uniquely positioned to enhance healthcare by making it more patient-focused, adaptable, and efficient. This initiative demands interdisciplinary collaboration, combining engineering with economics, health policy, and information technology. HSE students come from diverse academic backgrounds—including engineering, science, business, and mathematics—and graduate with comprehensive healthcare industry knowledge and design-thinking problem-solving skills. They develop the technical expertise to assess healthcare systems, pinpoint inefficiencies, and implement solutions that elevate care quality and operational effectiveness.
