Lehigh's Master of Education in International School Counseling caters to students residing abroad who serve at international schools with diverse student populations, including those from the U.S.
This hybrid program combines online coursework (both self-paced and live sessions) during the academic year with in-person summer classes held either in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania or at international sites. U.S. citizens and permanent residents completing the program qualify for Pennsylvania school counselor certification, which may be transferable to other states with varying requirements. International graduates should contact individual states regarding certification possibilities.
The curriculum equips students to support culturally diverse individuals and groups across various developmental phases, fostering essential skills for thriving in today's interconnected world. Special emphasis is placed on assisting children and families adapting to life in unfamiliar cultural environments.
This annual winter-start program comprises 16 courses (48 credits). Most students complete the degree in 2-3 years by taking 1-2 courses each fall and spring, one winter intersession course, and three summer courses, though flexible pacing options exist.
Hands-on training forms a core component, beginning with 100 fieldwork hours and culminating in a two-semester international school internship (15-20 weekly hours). Students may pause studies while arranging internship placements. The program concludes with a comprehensive portfolio presentation.
Lehigh's distinguished faculty combine cutting-edge research with extensive practical experience, while small class sizes ensure personalized mentorship.
Alumni pursue careers as international school counselors, college advisors, educators, and school administrators worldwide.
