The Chemistry Department provides degree programs through both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Arts and Sciences students can choose among three pathways: the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, or Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. We also provide an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, developed jointly with the Biological Sciences Department. Engineering and Applied Sciences students can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. The Pharmaceutical Chemistry B.S. program specifically addresses the pharmaceutical sector's focus on disease biochemistry and drug discovery. This field brings together biochemists, organic chemists, biologists, and chemical engineers, with most chemistry graduates entering pharmaceutical careers. The Pharmaceutical Chemistry degree emphasizes fundamental chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology training for this industry. Its interdisciplinary nature demands the comprehensive curriculum this program provides. The American Chemical Society-certified traditional degree is available in Arts and Sciences, while Engineering offers the ACS-certified B.S. with identical requirements. All Bachelor of Science programs share a Common Chemistry Core and comparable science prerequisites. These are pre-professional programs ideal for students aiming for graduate studies in chemistry or related fields. The Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Sciences serves non-professional goals, offering more chemistry depth than a minor for students not pursuing graduate work in chemical sciences.
