Most American universities include International Relations as a component of Political Science programs. Lehigh stands out as one of the select U.S. institutions that has maintained a dedicated IR department for many years. This unique structure allows students passionate about global affairs to pursue a specialized curriculum rarely available elsewhere. While no particular background is mandatory for International Relations, high school students considering this field should maximize their exposure to social science courses like economics, history, political science, and geography. Knowledge of a foreign language is recommended, though not formally required.
