The Master of Arts in Communication Studies equips students with diverse career opportunities after graduation. Our alumni thrive in communication-related fields or secure spots in prestigious doctoral programs. Our dynamic department sees faculty and graduate students delivering over 175 conference presentations annually. The program publishes Kaleidoscope, a peer-reviewed graduate journal featuring qualitative communication research, where students can participate in editorial processes and manuscript reviews.

Our department hosts a professional seminar series, teaching workshops, and provides ample production experience in the Marion Kleinau Theatre performance space. We maintain strong collaborations with SIU's Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department, which provides an 18-credit graduate certificate. First-year graduate teaching assistants benefit from our structured mentorship initiative, alongside numerous other formal and informal academic opportunities.
