The Creative Writing and Literature Concentration focuses on students' original works in drama, fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. Students collaborate closely with published graduate faculty members specializing in their chosen genre. Those pursuing an M.A. in Children's Literature will explore literature for children and young adults. Students may concentrate on specific periods, like 19th-century American literature, or genres such as picture books, working alongside faculty with relevant expertise.

Kansas State University boasts nationally recognized scholars in children's and young adult literature, with six full-time faculty members teaching these subjects, including three dedicated specialists in the field.

Qualification Requirements

Statement of objectives. A 2-3 page account of your academic aims and interests.
Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework.
Writing sample of 8-15 pages of analytical or persuasive prose.
Copy of official transcript from each college or university you have attended.
Three letters of recommendation
To be considered for admission, applicants who are submitting a TOEFL score must have a minimum of 92 on the iBT (internet-based TOEFL). Applicants with a score of 7.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam may also be considered for admission.
