Get ready for a career in medical technology or clinical laboratory work, where you'll detect diseases and deliver crucial healthcare information. Medical laboratory scientists (also called medical technologists or clinical laboratory scientists) are expert professionals who diagnose illnesses and produce essential data for detecting and managing conditions like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and various other medical issues. During their final year (30 credit hours), medical laboratory science students undergo clinical training at either of two partner hospitals in Kansas City: North Kansas City Hospital or Saint Luke's Hospital.
Upon fulfilling all bachelor's degree requirements, graduates qualify to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) exam, the premier credentialing standard for MLS professionals.
