K-State provides a four-year horticulture degree program. The Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources collaborates in an interdisciplinary food science and industry initiative.

Horticulture combines scientific knowledge and creative cultivation of plants for environmental enhancement, visual appeal, high-yield food production, or community wellness purposes. This program prepares students for careers in horticultural production, service industries, or scientific research. Graduates qualify for advanced studies nationwide and can fulfill educational prerequisites for certification through the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy, Crops, and Soils.

The curriculum includes foundational general education courses alongside specialized agricultural, horticultural, and business classes. Horticulture majors select from concentrations including production, golf course and sports turf management, horticultural science, or landscape horticulture. The science specialization emphasizes fundamental sciences for students planning graduate work or careers in research and extension services. Following their second year, students must complete a three- to six-month internship at an approved location.
