The Infectious Disease track enhances the core epidemiology program by equipping students with specialized knowledge in epidemiology, analytical techniques, laboratory methods, immunology, and pathogen biology to study the complex relationships between infectious agents, their hosts, vectors, and environments. Faculty and students explore effective strategies for detecting and quantifying infections, analyzing transmission patterns, and designing prevention and treatment initiatives for both emerging and persistent infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, HPV, malaria, measles, tuberculosis, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2. Program participants gain from microbiology and immunology classes, advanced epidemiological methods, statistical training, and diverse infectious disease courses across the Department of Epidemiology and other school departments. The program also provides hands-on research opportunities through faculty-led local and global projects in Infectious Disease Epidemiology.
