The Master of Science (ScM) is a two-year degree designed for students seeking a combination of academic coursework and intensive laboratory research experience. Most ScM graduates pursue careers in healthcare, enter PhD programs, or secure roles in industry or government sectors.
During the first year, ScM candidates complete coursework similar to the Master of Health Science (MHS) curriculum, covering biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, reproductive biology, disease mechanisms, and public health, supplemented with hands-on laboratory training. This initial lab experience provides foundational biomedical research skills under faculty supervision. In the second year, students undertake independent research projects with faculty mentorship, resulting in an ScM thesis. The program requires students to present their research at departmental events or national conferences, with opportunities to publish findings in academic journals.
