The Master of Music degree program focuses on advancing performance abilities, deepening understanding of repertoire in the primary area of study, and expanding overall musical knowledge. Peabody's saxophone curriculum is designed for students pursuing a rigorous, performance-oriented education within a conservatory environment. Drawing from my professional performing background, I've structured the program to prioritize solo and chamber music performance. Typically, saxophone students participate in weekly private lessons, quartet sessions, wind ensemble (or orchestra) rehearsals, repertoire classes, and sometimes saxophone ensemble practices. Combined with coursework in music theory, aural skills, music history, liberal arts, and dedicated practice time, students maintain a demanding yet rewarding weekly routine.
