The Peabody Piano Department boasts a distinguished legacy of artistic achievement that began with Arthur Friedheim, a pupil of Franz Liszt. Over the years, numerous celebrated musicians have mentored our students, shaping them into both accomplished performers and true artists. This proud tradition persists today under the guidance of the legendary Leon Fleisher—whose teaching lineage extends to Beethoven—and a faculty of internationally acclaimed pianists. The Doctor of Musical Arts program offers elite professional development in musical performance or composition, combining intensive practical training with rigorous academic study in music history and theory. Earning this degree signifies that graduates possess the advanced skills, knowledge, and vision to become influential leaders in their musical disciplines.
Students must have IELTS Academic Band Score equal to 7, or a minimum score of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), and 100 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
