Neuroscience explores the nervous system and its operations. Researchers in this field examine the nervous system across various scales, from molecular interactions with cell membranes to brain networks supporting cognitive processes like language. Significant advancements have occurred at every level, with the discipline expanding continuously.
At the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, undergraduates can enroll in a five-year BS/MS neuroscience program. This includes a dedicated research year with intensive seminars alongside major coursework. The BS/MS program primarily supports students committed to future MD, MD/PhD, or PhD research by offering a full-year laboratory immersion. Participants focus entirely on research, attend specialized seminars and journal discussions, and produce substantial written work about their studies. Designed to deliver an authentic, rigorous research experience, the program covers systems neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, or cellular and molecular neuroscience.
