The Museum Studies program enhances the art history curriculum through specialized courses exploring how museums have shaped art history as a discipline and teaching field. Theoretical and historical courses will familiarize students with museums' societal roles and how these institutions both mirror and reinforce cultural values. Hands-on practicum or internship opportunities will introduce students to diverse museum operations, including curation, collections care, preservation, educational programming, exhibition design, media relations, publishing, fundraising, and management.
This concentration requires five courses (15 credits), including three mandatory core classes and two electives. Students may apply only three credits toward both their art history major and museum studies concentration.
