The Wind Energy Science, Engineering, and Policy program aims to develop professionals who combine technical expertise with strong communication skills and ethical judgment, preparing them to guide the nation in achieving wind energy objectives that address climate change while enhancing economic growth.

This Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) initiative establishes an innovative, cross-disciplinary graduate program in Wind Energy Science, Engineering and Policy (WESEP) at Iowa State University, partnering with the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez. The program equips doctoral candidates with comprehensive training for research spanning engineering, atmospheric sciences, agricultural economics, and communication studies.

The program's foundation recognizes that addressing climate change demands an energy revolution, with wind power as a crucial component requiring collaborative advances across scientific, technological, and policy domains. Our mission is to enhance America's wind energy capabilities by educating skilled professionals who can effectively communicate and make principled decisions to expand wind energy adoption nationwide. The research focuses on accelerating wind energy development, reducing costs, and pushing technological boundaries. The curriculum features industry internships, international study opportunities, and a tiered learning structure that delivers broad knowledge, interdisciplinary research skills, and specialized WESEP expertise.
