The Roy J. Carver Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology provides undergraduate programs in biochemistry through both the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This discipline examines biological systems through chemical and physical frameworks. Biochemistry students cultivate essential analytical abilities while engaging with cutting-edge developments in medical science and biotech applications. The curriculum ensures comprehensive training in chemistry, biology, and physics fundamentals. Coursework emphasizes honing problem-solving techniques, analytical reasoning, effective communication, and experimental methodology. The Biochemistry program offers tailored tracks aligned with career aspirations, featuring three specialized pathways: Research & Biotechnology, Pre-Medical Studies, and Biophysics.
Students earning a Biochemistry B.S. degree gain qualifications for advanced studies in life sciences, healthcare professional programs, or direct entry into research positions within biochemistry, biotech, or pharmaceutical fields. Alumni also pursue opportunities in education, scientific writing, science advocacy, patent law, and biotech ventures. The program maintains accreditation from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), ensuring curriculum alignment with ASBMB's fundamental principles.
