The Roy J. Carver Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology provides undergraduate programs in biochemistry through both the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Biochemistry students examine life's fundamental processes using chemical and physical principles. Those pursuing biochemistry degrees gain essential analytical abilities while investigating cutting-edge developments in medical and biotechnological fields. The curriculum ensures graduates acquire a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, and physics, emphasizing problem-solving techniques, analytical reasoning, effective communication, and research methodology. Earning a Biochemistry B.S. prepares students for advanced studies in chemical or biological sciences, healthcare professions, or direct entry into research roles within biochemistry, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical fields. Additionally, graduates can enter professions such as education, scientific writing, science policy, patent law, or biotech startups. The program maintains accreditation from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), ensuring its educational goals correspond with ASBMB's fundamental principles.
