Agronomy focuses on cultivating plants for human benefit through scientific methods and technologies that sustain and enhance life. The Agronomy Department provides a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program, equipping graduates with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills for sustainable crop cultivation. Students develop expertise in analytical reasoning, effective communication, teamwork, and addressing complex challenges. They also gain awareness of the ethical, cultural, and environmental considerations shaping global agricultural practices.
This major opens doors to careers in diverse fields such as soil and crop management, precision agriculture, plant genetics, agribusiness, environmental conservation, and farm operations. Graduates find roles as field consultants, research assistants, sales representatives, and production supervisors within the agricultural sector. Government positions include extension advisors, conservation experts, soil analysts, pest management specialists, and agricultural finance professionals.
The program also serves as a foundation for advanced studies, including a combined B.S./MBA option. Approximately 25% of graduates directly enter master's or doctoral programs, with ample undergraduate research opportunities available throughout their studies.
