The Women's and Gender Studies Program is an interdisciplinary initiative within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This program enables students to examine topics related to women, gender, and sexuality across various cultural settings while exploring multiple academic fields through feminist viewpoints. Women's and gender studies fosters awareness of how intersecting elements—such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, ability, gender identity, faith, nationality, and sexual orientation—shape our comprehension of women's historical, cultural, and societal positions.
The program aims to enhance analytical skills and equip students with tools to challenge conventional beliefs. It motivates learners to investigate the foundations and ideological roots of knowledge while studying the interplay between knowledge and societal influence. With an emphasis on equity and belonging, this discipline bridges individual experiences with civic engagement while amplifying student perspectives.
Alumni of this program excel in analytical reasoning, research techniques, and clear communication. Their deep grasp of gender, racial, and socioeconomic dynamics allows them to collaborate productively with organizations, peers, and communities to address intricate societal challenges. Students also gain valuable preparation for professions in counseling, education, workforce management, global development, governance, commerce, and legal fields. The curriculum incorporates foundational and cross-disciplinary offerings spanning anthropology, history, economics, literature, health sciences, political science, psychology, religious studies, sociology, communication, and foreign languages.
