Social work is an evolving field dedicated to addressing the shifting requirements of people, families, communities, organizations, and society at large. For those drawn to this vocational path, social work provides diverse opportunities across various environments: mental health centers, senior care facilities, medical institutions, educational settings, workplace support programs, family counseling services, and local outreach organizations. Furthermore, qualified social workers take on leadership roles in social service agencies and contribute to government, academia, and even political spheres. The comprehensive education from a Master of Social Work (MSW) program equips graduates with the expertise to pursue specialized careers in this expansive field. Our School of Social Work's MSW program maintains accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
School social workers are credentialed educators and licensed mental health practitioners who possess at least a master's degree with a focus on school-based social work. Their training encompasses specialized knowledge in cultural competency, trauma-informed care, systemic approaches, equity issues, safety evaluations, collaborative techniques, and therapeutic methods to support student mental health. Acting as bridges between homes, schools, and communities, they address learning obstacles stemming from economic hardship, healthcare disparities, and community safety concerns. These professionals frequently concentrate on assisting at-risk student groups—including those experiencing homelessness, in foster care, from migrant backgrounds, transitioning between educational and correctional systems, or facing family violence—to improve attendance and graduation rates. Through close collaboration with educators, administrators, families, and community partners, they develop integrated support systems that keep students engaged in learning while connecting families with essential school and community resources to foster academic achievement.
