Social work is an evolving field dedicated to addressing the shifting needs of people, families, communities, organizations, and society at large. Those drawn to this vocation can explore diverse work environments, including mental health centers, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, corporate assistance programs, family support organizations, and community initiatives. Social workers also hold leadership roles in social service organizations and contribute across government sectors, academia, and even politics. A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree equips graduates with versatile skills for various career paths in this expansive field. The School of Social Work's MSW program holds accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
In this specialization, students learn to evaluate mental health and substance use challenges through holistic, client-centered approaches that emphasize strengths and recovery. They develop skills to co-create treatment, prevention, and support strategies with those they serve.
The program prepares graduates for roles as care coordinators, therapists, practitioners, and champions for individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges. Students also learn to identify, analyze, and implement research findings in evidence-based practice while assessing the real-world impact of interventions and services.
