The Master of Science in Geology is an Indiana University program administered by the Department of Earth Sciences.
This geology program provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary scientific training. Learners apply principles from biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics to analyze earth systems and geological processes. The field examines earth materials (including rocks, sediments, soils, and petroleum) along with their connections to oceans, the atmosphere, biological organisms, and their evolution over time.
Students collaborate with a three-member faculty advisory team to fulfill degree requirements and conduct research. Both thesis and non-thesis tracks are available.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for graduate admission in this program, you should hold a baccalaureate degree in Geology from an accredited institution of higher learning including a summer field course, and one year of chemistry and mathematics through college algebra and trigonometry. Individuals with a baccalaureate degree in another area of science are also encouraged to apply. The departmental graduate advisory committee will prescribe a plan of study to remove deficiencies.
A grade point average of 3.0 or higher in geology classes is expected. Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation.
Transcripts: Two official transcripts from every college attended are required.
Letters of Recommendation
TOEFL iBT of 79-99 or IELTS of 6.5-7.0 will take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test. Admitted students with Duolingo scores (min. accepted score - 110) will also be required to take the EAP placement test.
