The Master of Science in Geology is an Indiana University program administered by the Department of Earth Sciences.
This geology program provides students with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary science education. Learners apply principles from biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics to analyze earth systems and geological processes. The field of geology involves examining earth materials (including rocks, sediments, soils, and petroleum) along with their connections to oceans, the atmosphere, biological systems, and their evolution over time.
Students collaborate with a three-member faculty advisory committee to fulfill degree requirements and conduct research. Both thesis and non-thesis tracks are available.
Prospective students should have a bachelor’s degree in geology, including a summer field course, and a minimum of a B (3.0) average in geology courses. One year of chemistry and mathematics through college algebra and trigonometry are required. Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in another area of science are also encouraged to apply.
All non-native speakers of English must also submit proof of English proficiency unless the applicant has a Bachelor's degree or higher from the US or a predominantly English-speaking country.
IELTS score of 6.5
TOEFL (iBT) score of 79
